Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney has taken to social media to call out ESPN personality Pat McAfee for his comments on Toney’s performance in the Chiefs’ opening loss to the Detroit Lions. Toney, 24, criticized McAfee’s remarks on his ESPN show, although it remains unclear what exactly was said that upset Toney.

McAfee did discuss Chris Jones‘ contract situation with the team on his show, and on Tuesday, he talked about how Toney deleted his X (formerly Twitter) account following his Week 1 performance. “Pat McAfee be talkin’ like he really know s**t. You just another goofy…chill,” Toney said, referring to McAfee’s comments.

This wasn’t Toney’s only social media battle this week. He also called out his former team’s fanbase, the New York Giants, after their 40-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Toney posted a meme featuring the Cowboys, Saquon Barkley, and Daniel Jones and captioned the post: “Na Don’t get quiet now.”

McAfee has yet to respond to Toney’s comments, but he will return to the ESPN stations on Friday on a topic that the host will address. The Chiefs will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in their Week 2 matchup on Sunday.

Toney is not the only one

Toney’s criticism of McAfee is not the first time that an NFL player has called out a media personality for their comments. In 2019, Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield called out Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd for his criticism of Mayfield’s behavior on and off the field.

While it is common for sports personalities to give their opinions on players’ performances and contracts, it is important to remember that these athletes are human beings with emotions. Criticism is a part of the job for professional athletes, but it is important to remember that they are more than just their stats and performances on the field.
