Darko Rajakovic, coach of the Toronto Raptors, exploded against the referees in the game his team lost 132-131 to the Los Angeles Lakers with several controversial actions in the outcome and a huge imbalance in free throws between the two teams.
“It’s outrageous. What happened tonight is complete bullsh*t, it’s a disgrace to the referees and to the league for allowing this,” said the tremendously angry Serbian coach at a press conference.
“Twenty-three free throws for them in the last quarter and for us, two. How are we going to play like that? I understand the respect for All-Stars and all that, but we have All-Stars too. How is it possible that Scottie Barnes, who is an All-Star caliber player, is always going to the rim hard, not ‘flopping’ and not trying to get fouled and he only gets two free throws the whole game?” he added.
“How is that possible, how are you going to explain that to me, did they have to win tonight? If that’s the case, let them tell us so we don’t show up for the game. Let them get the win. But tonight was not fair and it’s not the first time for us (…). What’s been going on all season is complete bullsh*t,” he said.
Rajakovic continued to rage with his plea and claimed that the referees “see what they want to see” and that they don’t listen to the players. “Throughout the game (the Lakers) had 36 free throws and 23 in the last quarter alone. What are we talking about, how are we supposed to play (…). I tell our players to be professional, keep fighting, go for the next one. But until when?” he closed.
The Lakers went to the line 36 times in the entire game and made 28 of their shots. The Raptors had only 13 free throws and made 8. The difference was even greater in the fourth quarter, as the Lakers were 19 of 23 on free throws in the fourth period and the Raptors were only 1 of 2.

Also controversial was an offensive foul, with only 25 seconds left, called on RJ Barrett for a block on Anthony Davis, which was used to nullify a three-pointer by Barnes that would have tied the score.
