A TV presenter covering sports has been arrested on suspicion of raping a child, it has been reported.

It has been claimed the married star was apprehended by police during a 4am raid on his home earlier this week, according to The Sun. The Mirror reports that it has been said documents and devices were seized.

The man was reportedly questioned by police and held for 18 hours before he was released on bail, pending further enquiries. It has been reported the allegation is historical, and the alleged victim was under 10 at the time they were reportedly raped on more than one occasion.

The man was reportedly working in the TV industry at the time of the offend and his bosses are said to be aware of the investigation, but it is thought his colleagues are not. The Mirror reports that the alleged victim made the allegation recently and it was then reported to police.

An investigation was launched after the alleged victim was interviewed by specialist child abuse investigation officers. Police are said to be carrying out further enquiries.

A neighbour of the man arrested told The Sun: “The police turned up very early. They took him away and were there for a while ­carrying out a search. Everyone is shocked at his arrest.”
