Patrick Mahomes‘ attempted takeover of the English EFL Championship side, West Brom, has been given a verdict by a connected local figure.
The Kansas City Chiefs‘ quarterback has apparently lined up a deal with Clarke Hunt, a billionaire, to purchase the West Midlands club that was in the Premier League as recently as 2021.
In response to Gary Morton claiming that the deal will conclude within a week, Chris Lepkowski, a journalist and academic at Birmingham City University, called the update “interesting” thus casting his verdict on the saga.
Hunt is a part-owner of the Chiefs, who are the defending Super Bowl champions, and is estimated by Forbes to have a family net worth somewhere in the region of $20.5bn (£16.5bn).
Mahomes isn’t shy of cash either. The star QB is currently on a $450m contract that he signed in 2023 to become the highest earning player in the NFL.
Lepkowski had previously said that two bidders are “very much involved” in talks to purchase the soccer club whilst one bid was described as “extremely serious” as he appeared on the Liquidator Podcast.
They would be the latest American owners, or NFL-affiliated owners, to join the English soccer system. Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan controls Fulham and Los Angeles Rams’ Stan Kroenke controls Arsenal.
The San Francisco 49ers‘ investment arm became 100% owners at Leeds United in the summer and of course John Henry/Tom Werner (Liverpool) and the Glazer family (Manchester United) are two of the most high-profile names in the Premier League.

The Chiefs are on a bye week for Week 10 meaning that they will not play but their next contest will be against the Philadelphia Eagles on November 21 in Week 11.
It will see the Kelce brothers face off as Travis plays as a tight end for the Chiefs whilst Jason plays as a center for the Eagles. Who will emerge with the bragging rights in the rematch of the 2023 Super Bowl?
The Chiefs have a 7-2 record for the season and lead the AFC West whilst the Eagles have an impressive 8-1 record and lead the NFC East by three games.
