The image of the first half in El Clasico was the clash between Vinicius and Xavi on the touchline.

The coach scolded the Brazilian vehemently for protesting against what he considered to be a foul by Ronald Araujo.

The Barcelona coach’s outbursts and his shouting sparked Vinicius, who went to the touchline to ask for an explanation.

“Nothing, nothing, it’s nothing, it’s nothing, it’s nothing!” Xavi repeated over and over again.

The coach exploded after the Brazilian’s continuous protests and the player was not amused.

The Brazilian did not like the way Xavi was addressing him and even less that he was accusing him of diving during a passage of play in which he felt he had been obstructed by Araujo.

Besides, Vinicius was already livid because referee Gil Manzano wasn’t giving him any of the fouls, he felt he was on the receiving end of, with Araujo and Gavi at the center of his ire.

Two slaps in the face

The tension led to a confrontation on the touchline. Vinicius kept asking for explanations and Xavi tapped him on the shoulder to insist that it had been a fair challenge and that he was wrong in his protests.

The coach then tried to defuse the tension and gave Vinicius a couple of affectionate slaps on the face just as Ancelotti arrived to get his player out of the way and ask him to carry on with the game.
