A balloon release tribute has been held for former boxer and gym owner Jordan Schofield in Heckmondwike after he passed away earlier this month.

Well known throughout Heckmondwike, Jordan was the owner of the Iron Arms Boxing & Fitness Gym in the town. Tributes flooded in for the much-loved man earlier this week as he was described as “selfless” and “always there” for those who needed him.

Now, friends and people who were supported by him have come together to remember him in a special way.

In a video of the event, a large crowd of people can be seen gathered in a basketball court. Together, they release a large number of balloons into the air as people cheer while the balloons fly away.

A GoFundMe campaign has already been set up to help Jordan’s family in this difficult time. So far, it has raised more than £13,000.

It reads: “As a family we have been aware of many people that kindly want to contribute towards Jordan’s funeral. We have decided to set up this go fund me page for people who would to play a part in his final journey. let’s give Jordan the best possible send off that he deserves. Any donations are hugely appreciated.

“Jordan was a huge part of our lives and a massive inspiration to our children. He was so selfless and always there for anyone who needed him. His presence lit up any room and played a big part in our community. Let’s all come together to help him on his final journey to eternal peace”.
