In her video statement, Kate Middleton explained that she had been spending time with her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, as she and the family came to terms with her cancer diagnosis. “It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be okay,” she said.

She further elaborated that the surgery in January had been for a condition that was believed to be non-cancerous, but that tests following the procedure proved otherwise. “My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” the princess revealed.

Kate also took the opportunity to thank her husband for his support. “This of course came as a huge shock,” she said, “and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”
