The San Antonio Spurs lost 116-123 to the Toronto Raptors at Frost Bank Center on a day when Victor Wembanyama suffered his first major NBA disappointment.

The number 1 of the 2023 Draft scored 20 points (five of nine in two shots, two of six in three shots and four of five free throws), nine rebounds, five blocks and four assists in 32 minutes, but he missed a key rebound at the end of regulation time and could not avoid the defeat of the Spurs in overtime against the Raptors.

Wembanyama breaks his NBA record for blocks

The French power forward, who LeBron James compared to a basketball “alien”, used his 2.24m height (at just 95kg according to the NBA) and 2.44m wingspan to put up five blocks, so far his NBA record for blocks.

The NBA highlighted Victor Wembanyama‘s block on OG Anunoby by spreading his 2.44m wings to intercept a three-pointer from the corner.

Wembanyama‘s block, also on Anunoby, was also much talked about on social media, as he spiked the ball on the backboard almost without jumping.

“He’s too tall… He’s too tall,” Anunoby said after the game when asked about Wembanyama‘s blocks.

Wembanyama‘s intimidation is so savage that he caused two Raptors air balls on three-point shots on the same play.
