Pittsburgh Steelers fans are not happy with the team’s performance, particularly with offensive coordinator Matt Canada. One fan, who goes by the name “Mitch,” hired Dean Norris, the actor who played Officer Hank Schrader on “Breaking Bad,” via Cameo to send a message to Canada. In the video, Norris tells Canada to “get the f— out of Pittsburgh,” echoing the sentiments of many Steelers fans.
“I’ll tell you what: Mitch has something to say. He needs you to get the f— out of Pittsburgh, OK?” Norris said. “Mitch says the Pittsburgh Steelers need to fire Matt Canada.”
The frustration with Canada stems from the team’s poor offensive performance in the first two games of the season. The Steelers have the second-worst offense in the league, averaging just 247 yards per game. The run game has been particularly problematic, with first-round pick Najee Harris struggling to find success on the ground. The team is averaging just 48 yards per game rushing.
In Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns, the offense mustering just 255 yards compared to the Browns’ 408. The Acrisure Stadium crowd chanted “Fire Canada!” during the game.
Canada has been the Steelers’ offensive coordinator since 2021, after serving as the team’s quarterbacks coach in 2020. Since taking over as offensive coordinator, the team’s offense has finished 15th and 24th in yards per game in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
Pickett shows signs of improvement
The fan frustration with Matt Canada is understandable given the team’s lack of success on offense. However, it’s worth noting that it’s still early in the season and there is plenty of time for the offense to improve.
Second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett showed some promise in Week 2, throwing a 71-yard touchdown pass to George Pickens. If he can continue to develop and Harris can find some success on the ground, the offense could turn things around.
In any case, it’s clear that Steelers fans are not happy with the team’s performance and are looking for someone to blame. Whether or not Canada is ultimately responsible for the team’s struggles remains to be seen, but for now, he’s squarely in the crosshairs of frustrated fans like “Mitch.”
