Will Grier used Saturday night’s NFL preseason finale victory over the Las Vegas Raiders as an audition tape. He knew heading into the contest it would be his last time playing quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.
Grier, 28, finished the home game with 305 passing yards, including two touchdown passes, on 29-of-35 completions and zero interceptions. He also rushed for a pair of TDs, racking up 53 total rushing yards on 10 carries.

Raiders backup QB Aidan O’Connell was unable to do anything for his side as they fell 31-16, only throwing for 178 yards on 17-of-26 completed passes. Las Vegas finish preseason with a 2-1 record, while Dallas lost its previous two outings for a 1-2 mark.
The starters for head coach Mike McCarthy did not see any action as they prepare for their season opener September 10 at the New York Giants.
Trey Lance, who was traded to Dallas from the San Francisco 49ers on Friday night, is set to take Grier’s place as the Cowboys’ third-string QB behind Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush.

Dallas acquired Lance for pennies on the dollar and some believe they fleeced San Francisco, while others think it was a poor move.
Prescott, 30, led the league in interceptions last year and is still hopeful they will win the Super Bowl this season.
Lance, 23, is a former third overall pick with a lot to prove due to injuries keeping him off the field during these past two years.
Having Lance as an option could add pressure for Prescott to perform, which might create drama off the field.
