Manchester City suffered a disappointing defeat on Wednesday night as they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the third round by last year’s finalists, Newcastle.

That may give Wolves a small amount of confidence that they could kick City whilst they’re down and try and get a much-needed result in the Premier League against the current champions.

The other way of looking at it is that City will be out for revenge and Wolves are the unfortunate next opponent. Pep Guardiola’s side have won all six of their league games so far, while Wolves have just four points from their six games and look destined to battle it out at the bottom of the table.

Here is all that you need to know about City’s trip to the west midlands.

There are very few teams that can say this right now but Wolves have got a clean bill of health. That does not mean they are without selection issues though, as Jean-Ricner Bellegarde is suspended after his red card last weekend, while Tommy Doyle is not allowed to face his parent club.

There were changes for the Carabao Cup defeat to Ipswich, so Gary O’Neil is expected to bring the likes of Nelson Semedo and Max Kilman back into the starting XI for what will be a very tough match.

Wolves predicted lineup vs Man City (4-3-3): Sa; Semedo, Dawson, Kilman, Ait-Nouri; Gomes, Traore, Lemina; Neto, Cunha, Hwang

In what is a very rare occurrence, City will be navigating this game without Rodri as he was shown a straight red card against Nottingham Forest last weekend. It is not clear who will take his place in the midfield given the team then lost in midweek with Kalvin Phillips playing 90 minutes.

Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones and Bernardo Silva are all out, but Mateo Kovacic made his return in the Newcastle defeat. Many big names should come back into the starting lineup after being rested.

Man City predicted lineup vs Wolves (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Walker, Akanji, Dias, Ake; Kovacic, Nunes; Foden, Alvarez, Doku; Haaland

Manchesster City may be coming into this game off the back of a rare victory, but the chances of them dropping points away at Wolves on Saturday are very slim.

So many superb players will be coming back into the starting lineup, whilst Wolves seem pretty disjointed at the moment and suffered that confidence knock by losing to Ipswich in the week. This could be a pretty ruthless response to cup disappointment for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Prediction: Wolves 0-4 Man City
