1,026 minutes. Hours of taunting from rival fans. Countless Tik Toks from Sean Millis. It’s all over.

Rasmus Hojlund netted his first Premier League goal in dramatic fashion as Manchester United secured a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa on Boxing Day to kick off the Sir Jim Ratcliffe era with a much-needed win.

Old Trafford was bouncing by full time but it looked like another protest could be on the cards in the first half as some comical defending saw United fall two goals down.

Firstly, John McGinn’s free-kick from out on the wing was allowed to sail across the entire six-yard box and into the back of Andre Onana’s net – have we heard that one before?

Just minutes later and the boos were raining down as Clement Lenglet found himself all alone from a corner. The Frenchman headed back across the box towards Leander Dendoncker, who poked home Villa’s second of the evening.

What must Ratcliffe have been thinking at this point?

While United soon figured themselves out, the tension was still building in the second half and Alejandro Garnacho didn’t help things when he failed to hold his run under very little pressure and saw a goal ruled out for offside.

Thankfully for United, however, Garnacho soon got the hang of things.

Having mistimed a run for a Marcus Rashford cross just minutes earlier, the Argentina international made no mistake with his second chance as he tapped home from close range to kick-start a comeback.

The excellent Garnacho was soon at it again as he thumped home United’s equaliser.

And then, it happened.

Rasmus Hojlund scored a Premier League goal.

Rasmus Hojlund scored the winning goal.

Unsurprisingly, fans expected Ratcliffe to be in slightly higher spirits by the end of the game.
