Former welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi did not hold back in expressing his thoughts on Ryan Garcia‘s positive test for ostarine, casting a shadow of doubt over his victory against Devin Haney.

Malignaggi‘s reaction is one of the strongest heard in recent days within the professional boxing community, which is eager to distance itself from such a serious issue.

“Boxing is probably the dirtiest of all professional sports, I wouldn’t exaggerate, I wouldn’t lie,” Malignaggi stated on the ‘Deep Waters’ program on ProBox TV. He highlighted the lax nature of drug testing in the sport.

“We have the weakest drug tests,” Malignaggi explained. “There are no mandatory out-of-season tests, which means no testing during training.

“Only certain fights have these random tests implemented, and not even in every fight.”

Ryan Garcia has repeatedly claimed his innocence, but Malignaggi firmly believes in his guilt.

“I’m going to say it openly: I think Ryan Garcia cheated, man,” Malignaggi said, directly addressing Garcia. “I believe you took steroids and you knew it.”

The Ripple Effects of Garcia’s Alleged Doping

Former boxer Chris Algieri also weighed in on Ryan Garcia‘s situation.

“With a bad loss against Haney, Ryan would have been relegated to YouTube fights, essentially,” Algieri said.

“But now, he secures the win and becomes the face of the sport, with a legitimate chance of becoming the general face of boxing in the coming months or years.

“And then this comes out. Boxing never misses a chance to end up with a black eye, a bloody nose, and a broken jaw. This guy was getting a lot of attention.”

Shawn Porter, another former champion, offered advice to Ryan Garcia on how to handle the situation.

“If you did something on purpose, admit it and try to recover, because this is a big mark on you. You can come back as a clean fighter again,” Porter suggested, emphasizing the importance of integrity in the sport.

Chris Algieri Calls Out Oscar De La Hoya

Chris Algieri also pointed a finger at Oscar De La Hoya, Ryan Garcia‘s promoter, as part of the problem regarding the positive test.

“When you’re Oscar De La Hoya, this is your sport, what you love, what you’ve done. How do you want to set an example for those coming up?” he expressed bitterly.

“You have to be a better example and also take some responsibility and say: ‘I need to guide these guys better.’ This isn’t supposed to happen. But it did. And now we all have to talk about it.”

The controversy surrounding Ryan Garcia‘s positive doping test has opened up discussions on the integrity of boxing and the responsibilities of those involved, from the athletes to the promoters.

As the boxing world waits to see how this situation unfolds, the focus remains on the impact of these allegations on Garcia’s career and the sport’s reputation.
