Thus, she was selected on the basis of her audition tape said MTV producer and casting director, Andrew Hoegl. Therefore, he also calls it “hysterical”, and credits the season’s humor to Howard.

In her audition tape, she referred to herself as a “half-black, half-Filipino Chris Rock”. Between January and late May 2000, filming took place over the course of 124 days. In addition, her 2000 MTV biography describes her as possessing a “manic wit”. She moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in standup comedy, after filming ended. Later on, she engaged in acrylic painting, an interest she developed while in New Orleans. For approximately 5 or 6 years, she stayed in Los Angeles.

Likewise, in order to host a web store to sell her artwork, she later started a blog called Princess Melissa. In the blog, she also expresses herself in writing. In a 2002 interview, “I’ve always felt more comfortable in my written presentation than in my face”, telling HuffPost. Slowly and steadily, she started gaining popularity and was getting recognition worldwide. Hence, she later moved her online presence to Tumblr and then to Patreon.
