The Ravens and Seahawks shared the sad news on Monday night that Alex Collins, the former NFL running back, has passed away at 28.

As reported by The Athletic, Collins tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., as confirmed by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

The initial findings suggest that an adult female, whose identity has not been disclosed, was driving an SUV. She was making a left turn and as she moved across the lanes, Collins, on his motorcycle, collided with the SUV’s rear passenger side.

Authorities confirmed that Collins was declared dead at the accident site. The driver of the SUV stayed at the location and has been cooperative with the ongoing investigation, as per the sheriff’s office statement.

Collins former teams mourn his loss

The Ravens released a statement expressing their sorrow: “We deeply regret the loss of Alex Collins. Alex was always someone who brightened up the room with his infectious smile. He was sincerely warm-hearted and brought a unique zeal and energy wherever he went. We hope memories of the positivity and affection he spread to so many will be his lasting legacy.”

Meanwhile, the Seahawks, another team that had the privilege of having Collins on their roster, conveyed their sentiments saying, “Devastated by the news. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Collins family at this time.”

In his college career at Arkansas, Collins showcased his talent by delivering three straight 1,000-yard seasons, accumulating 3,703 yards and 36 touchdowns during his stint in Fayetteville.

Drafted by the Seahawks in the fifth round in 2016, Collins, the Fort Lauderdale native, started his professional journey in Seattle. However, it was in Baltimore in 2017 where he had his most outstanding season, amassing 1,160 scrimmage yards and scoring six times.
