Julio Urias, a crucial player for the Los Angeles Dodgers in their recent championship run, is currently on the restricted list due to a domestic violence case.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts addressed Urias‘ future in a recent podcast interview. Roberts clarified that Urias will not be pitching for the Dodgers in the current season, but the situation beyond that remains uncertain.
He explained that he hasn’t seen any video footage of the incident, as both the police and Major League Baseball (MLB) are conducting investigations.
“First off, it’s a very unfortunate situation,” Roberts told The Show: A NY Post baseball podcast with Joel Sherman & Jon Heyman.
“I think the world of Julio. When you spend eight years with a player, a person, you get to know him and you get to care about him. What we heard, still haven’t seen any video, obviously Major League Baseball law enforcement, they’re doing their due diligence. He’s on the restricted list. So we haven’t seen him, we haven’t heard from him.
Not the first time
Urias was originally set to complete his contract with the Dodgers at the end of the current MLB season, potentially making him a highly sought-after free agent. However, his involvement in this domestic violence case has cast doubt on the trajectory of his career.
This isn’t the first time Urias has faced allegations related to domestic violence. In 2019, he was arrested and placed on administrative leave by MLB, ultimately serving a 20-game suspension for a similar incident.
As the situation unfolds, Urias‘ future in the MLB and with the Dodgers remains uncertain, pending the outcome of investigations and legal proceedings. The Dodgers, despite this setback, are entering the postseason as favorites to reach the World Series, albeit without the services of Urias, who played a pivotal role in their previous championship win.
