Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho all picked up injuries in their FA Cup semi-final win against Coventry City.

The Red Devils will face rivals Manchester City in the final in a repeat of last year’s Wembley showcase, but surrendered a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with the Championship side after extra-time and only advanced after winning 4-2 on penalties.

United’s preparations to that match were disrupted by three fresh injuries to Mason Mount, Sofyan Amrabat and Willy Kambwala. There have now been over 60 different cases of injury or illness to rule a player out of at least one match this season.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League meeting with Sheffield United at Old Trafford, Ten Hag confirmed a further four players picked up knocks in their outing at Wembley, with two of them set to be ruled out for the visit of the Blades.

“Yeah, so we had a problem with Garnacho, that’s why we took him off during the game but I think he will be fine,” Ten Hag said.

“Scott McTominay, we have to assess today. That is really doubtful. Marcus Rashford is also doubtful and then there was an issue with Bruno Fernandes, with the hand. But I think he can make it.

“So we have some doubts going into the game tomorrow.”

Garnacho was withdrawn in the 66th minute of Sunday’s semi-final, being replaced by Antony. Rashford came off in the final minute of normal time and immediately after Coventry’s last-gasp equaliser, while McTominay appeared in serious discomfort when he was replaced by Omari Forson in the 13th minute of extra-time. Fernandes completed the full 120 minutes and scored in the penalty shootout.

United will move back up into sixth place above Newcastle if they better their result on Wednesday – the Magpies head south to Crystal Palace, who are fresh off a 5-2 thrashing of West Ham.
