When was the last time boxing experienced a fight like the one that will take place this Saturday in Las Vegas between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford?
Looking at recent fights, and taking into account the career of both boxers, perhaps Canelo-Golovkin I is a good precedent.
Two champions, one more experienced than the other, but two extraordinary fighters who didn’t hold anything back.
The fight between ‘The Truth’ Spence and ‘Bud’ Crawford likely won’t be like Pacquiao-Mayweather.
Everything points to an action-packed contest for both fighters, and all fans are dreaming of something close to the Leonard-Hagler rematch.
Mind you, based on Spence‘s words, you’d think he’s thinking more along the lines of the Hagler-Hearns battle. Who knows.
Spence Jr., whose last official fight dates to April 2022 against Yordenis Ugas, has warned that this fight reminds him of the ‘Four Kings’ era.

“This is the fight the public was asking for. Terence Crawford, 39-0, and me, 28-0,” said the New York southpaw.
“He holds one title and I hold three and the undisputed champion is what we want. I feel like this fight is like the old school fights, like Tommy Hearns and Ray Leonard.
Spence, a strong and technical fighter, predicts that the fight between champions will be spectacular.
“Terence Crawford has that dog mentality to fight and I also have that same mentality,” he said.
“If you put us together, what you have is an all-out war, an action-packed fight, like the greats.
“On Saturday I hope he only has destruction on his mind because that’s what I’ll have. I’ll only be thinking about destruction.”
