Aaron Rodgers believes his New York Jets teammates need to “grow up” and “keep their poise” better in adverse situations — but a little immaturity may soon be the least of the Jets‘ problems.
A new report claims that some New York players are already starting to lose patience with third-year head coach Robert Saleh, whose continued backing of embattled quarterback Zach Wilson cost the Jets a shot at finally defeating the New England Patriots on Sunday — and threatens to derail a season that, only a few weeks ago, held so much promise.
Tension rising in New York
Since Rodgers‘ 2023 season ended due to an Achilles tendon rupture, Saleh has consistently stood by Wilson — whom the Jets drafted in 2021, shortly after hiring Saleh to coach him. But with Wilson under center, New York has scored only 20 points in the past two games — losing both to fall to 1-2 on the young season.
And even though the season is still in its relative infancy, the AFC East is shaping up to be among the NFL‘s most competitive divisions — and some of the Jets‘ players, specifically those on defense, are reportedly unhappy at the perception that Saleh is excusing Wilson’s mistakes and failing to show accountability.
The Jets’ defense will be tested in Week 4 against Patrick Mahomes and the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, and it appears their belief is wavering in Wilson to make plays that would keep them in the game at MetLife Stadium.

The arrival of veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian could put pressure on Wilson to elevate his game to a level he hasn’t yet hit in his short NFL career. The former #2 overall pick may have avoided backbreaking turnovers in Sunday’s loss to the Patriots, but he only completed 18 of his 36 passes for just 157 yards in a five-point loss.
It remains to be seen if Saleh‘s stance shifts on continuing to trot out Wilson as the starting quarterback. If the Jets continue to pile up losses, and the locker room threatens to revolt, significant changes could come in New York — and Rodgers might not want to come back from Achilles surgery at all.
