Manny Pacquiao has not yet made his future intentions public, although there are different possible scenarios for his future.
On the one hand, there is his dream of being an Olympian at the Paris 2024 Games, although he faces several obstacles, starting with the fact that the maximum age for boxers in this competition is 40.
Pacquiao hints at return to boxing
The Philippine Olympic Committee (COP) made a “special request” in October for its boxer to be granted an exemption.
If granted, he would have to earn his place in Paris through one of two qualifying tournaments next year in Italy and Thailand.
On the other hand, we have Amir Khan, who wants a fight in Saudi Arabia or Abu Dhabi against his former training partner.
“There is interest, Manny’s team wants it. It would be huge. A fight with Manny would definitely motivate me,” Amir Khan said in an interview on IFLTV.
Such a fight would mark the return of both fighters to the professional ranks.
What did Pacquiao’s former promoter say about his future?
The latest clues about Pac-Man’s future have been offered by Bob Arum, the former promoter of the eight-division champion.
Back in 2019 the Top Rank boss was concerned that Manny would suffer “brain damage” if he continued boxing, but now he even sees him as having a chance of returning to his fold.
“One guy I’d like to get for [Josh] Taylor is Pacquiao,” Arum told Pro Box TV.
“I think it would be a good fight. Maybe they could do it at a bantamweight or maybe 147lbs. I think that’s a fight that Pacquiao would be interested in.
“He loves to spend money and he spent a lot on his presidential campaign. Pacquiao is a very rich guy, but Manny wants to continue his career for at least another year or two. Money is the reason why everybody comes back.”
