Soucek is booked – Newcastle 1-1 West Ham

Bowen gets his first sight of goal and it’s a right-footed snap shot that Dubravka gets down well to save.

Up the other end, Gordon cuts in and a deflection takes his effort past the far post.

I think we’re going to get a change in the West Ham goal soon. Fabianski is getting ready. Not sure why.

He’s running, but a little awkwardly.

Soucek has gone into the book for blocking Guimaraes.

Gordon goes close – Newcastle 1-1 West Ham

Paqueta is now down injured following a challenge from Guimaraes. Team-mates in the week, battering each other on Saturday. Fair enough.

‘Eddie Howe’s barmy army’ rings around the stadium, before silence engulfs the arena again.

OOOH! Close from Gordon. NEwcastle work the ball out to the right and Murphy sticks the ball in. Gordon gets ahead of his man, but heads wife, Areola rooted to the spot. Perhaps should have scored.

Another clash between the Brazilians in midfield, with both players holding their faces.

St James’ Park silenced – Newcastle 1-1 West Ham

Newcastle break but Gordon passes straight to Bowen. A call-back of sorts there.

St James’ Park is quiet and has been since the Lascelles injury. The goal didn’t help.

Frsutration then sets in when Gordon mis-places a pass on an attack and the ball rolls out for a West Ham goal kick. Hands on hips from the winger.

Moyes not happy – Newcastle 1-1 West Ham

Chances are coming left, right, and centre now. First Gordon, then Kudus, but both efforts are tame.

David Moyes, for whatever reason, is not happy, re Craig…

Old school comment from Moyes to the assistant referee just now: ‘Do you not need your glasses on?’

12:53, 23‘

Antonio squares things up – Newcastle 1-1 West Ham

Newcastle are sitting off now but it’s a high line. That wizard Paqueta picks out Antonio, who is on his bike when the home defence is not. No flag, the forward runs through, and he slots easily past Dubravka.

A massive inconvenience for Newcastle with Lascelles’ injury and they have paid the price they weren’t really at fault for

We are all square.

Craig’s thoughts below…

West Ham made that look really simple. So simple you assumed it was offside. Not so. Great ball by Paqueta & great finish by Antonio.

12:51, 21‘

GOAL! – Newcastle 1-1 West Ham (Antonio)

More good play from Gordon and Isak on the left but Zouma gets back well to block the forward’s latest effort.

AND NOW WEST HAM HAVE SCORED! FROM NOWHERE!

12:48, 19‘

A re-shuffle for Newcastle – Newcastle 1-0 West Ham

A bit re-shuffle in defence for Newcastle now with Krafth going to right back. It’s Schar and Burn in the middle and Livramento on the left.

Really not ideal for Newcastle and Eddie Howe, who were already down to the bare bones at the back.

Antonio fires over for West Ham.

12:47, 12‘

Lascelles makes way – Newcastle 1-0 West Ham

Lascelles returns to the field. Weird one as that really didn’t look good.

More from Craig on that early goal…

In the battle of Gordon versus Bowen there is only winner inside the opening exchanges. The Newcastle man has won a penalty and been direct and dangerous from the off. Bowen, by contrast, has lost two duels with Dan Burn.

Ah, Lascelles is making way. Obvious, I think. Emile Krafth is his replacement.

12:44, 15‘

Worrying signs for Lascelles – Newcastle 1-0 West Ham

West Ham are starting to come back into it but don’t really look confident with the ball.

Newcastle however do and look threatneing every time they come forward. Isak fires over from close range.

A bit of a worry around Jamaal Lascelles now, who seems to have twisted something as he’s gone down defending a ball forward.

A long, long wait here. I think he’s going to try and carry on though?

Isak puts Newcastle ahead – Newcastle 1-0 West Ham

The decision is that it wasn’t an intentional pass and Areola can’t replicate his penalty heroics from a few weeks ago and Isak slots it right into the bottom left corner, with Areola going the wrong way anyway.

The hosts lead. Sloppy from West Ham.

GOAL! – Newcastle 1-0 West Ham (Isak)

Really good work from Anthony Gordon early on and he has won his side a spot kick in the opening, what, 150 seconds.

He gets to a ball in the box ahead of Coufal, who is just too slow to the ball and Gordon goes down. No questions about the foul.

Hang on, they’re checking an offside. Gordon is offside, but they can’t work out whether there is a deliverate ball from Schar. The ball has come off a defender but it’s about intent from Schar…

It’s given! Isak to take… SCORES!

PENALTY! – Newcastle 0-0 West Ham

It is a back four for Newcastle, with Craig noticing a promising tactical decision for West Ham too…

Interesting to note straight away, West Ham have started with Bowen on the right, up against Dan Burn…

Quite a physcial start, with Newcastle getting the ball down and trying to play early on.

HANG ON! PENALTY TO NEWCASTLE!

We are underway! – Newcastle 0-0 West Ham

The Premier League is officially back.

Rob Jones blows his first whistle of the afternoon and the Magpies get us started.

Here come the teams!

The players are on their ways out in the north east!

Phillips misses out again

David Moyes was asked about James Ward-Prowse being picked over Kalvin Phillips on TNT…

James has played realy well all season, he’s been really unfortunate to miss the last two games. We needed another attacker against Freiburg and stuck with it.

I’ve got to say, Kavlin is just beginning to get his form back and find his way. As many minutes as we can possibly give him we will do, but he has to keep knocking at the door and hopefully his opportunity will come.

Maybe off the bench today, then.

All the latest news put in there, and today there will be half time and full time voice notes from Craig.

Gordon’s scintillating home form

I thought about briinging Anthony Gordon into my fantasy team this week but ultimately decided agaisnt it. I then had a dream he scored twice…

His home form is not to be scoffed at. A goal or assist in all but one home match so far this season? Not bad.

The winger has become Newcastle’s talisman and is now a fully-fledged England international. He’s certainly making a name for himself.

West Ham’s… attacking issues?

David Moyes has been speaking to TNT about his second stint at West Ham and winning the Conference League last season.

I actually consider myself an attacking manager. There may be managers who excite more, but the one sitting here wins more.

Is that true? The Hammers can go from not scoring for three games to scoring five in one games. It’s odd.

I can’t fathom why there is any kind of dissent from the West Ham fans.

The words of Joe Cole. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Newcastle’s defensive issues

The players have just made their ways out to warm up at St James’ Park and it, like most of the week has been, is wet.

TNT’s new angle of brodcasting from inside the tunnel always makes me laugh because the pundits look so awkward speaking next to the players.

Owen Hargrevaes is currently disucssing Newcastle’s defensive issues – they have already conceded 48 goals this term – and I guess they have a point. Nick Pope has been injured for ages, Trippier is absent again, it feels like Botman has never been fit.

They will have to make do with Martin Dubravka and Jamaal Lascelles again today. Two players from the pre-takeover era.

Gordon vs Bowen?

Speaking of Craig, he was on England duty over the international break and witnessed first hand the battle for the wide spots ahead of the Euros.

There could be another chance for two stars to state their cases today…

I’ve been away with England the past fortnight and two players who impressed were Anthony Gordon and Jarrod Bowen.

They’re in opposition today and perhaps it’s another England audition, given I suspect they’re playing for one place in the Euros squad, as it stands.

The Tonali betting scandal

The talk of the week around Newcastle has been Sando Tonali, with it revealed he had placed bets after his move to the Magpies in August.

He is currently serving a ban for betting, we know that, but more news has come out this week with more details and the potential for further punishment.

Criag has been at the centre of our coverage, and has detialed and had his say on the situaiton. Check it out below.

Antonio’s inclusion a plus for the visitors

West Ham have too made just the solitary change, with James Ward-Prowese coming in for Edson Alvarez – who is suspended – in another enforced change.

The return of Michail Antonio has been a welcome one for the Hammers, who can now play Jarrod Bowen back out wide and Lucas Paqueta seemingly through the middle.

It will be an interesting battle today.

One chance for Newcastle from City defeat

Trippier misses out then while Livramento starts and Barnes is on the bench.

Just once change from the side that lost to City in the FA Cup, with Sven Botman, who of course will be out for the rest of the season, dropping out for Livramento in what will surely be a change of shape.

West Ham team to face Newcastle

Areola, Coufal, Zouma, Mavropanos, Emerson, Soucek, Ward-Prowse, Bowen, Paqueta, Kudus, Antonio.

Subs: Fabianski, Johnson, Cresswell, Phillips, Cornet, Ings, Ogbonna, Earthy, Mubama.

Newcastle team to face West Ham

Dubravka, Livramento, Schar, Lascelles, Burn, Longstaff, Guimaraes, Willock, Murphy, Isak, Gordon.

Subs: Karius, Dummett, RItchie, Barnes, Krafth, Hall, Almiron, Anderson, White.

Newcastle fitness update

Craig Hope is our reporter at the ground today.

The big fitness news from here at St James’ Park is that Tino Livramento and Harvey Barnes are all passed fit and part of the Newcastle squad. It’s likely they’ll be on the bench.

Kieran Trippier NOT involved

Videos had been going round on social media earlier of Kieran Tripper arriving at the ground, but my understanding is that hs is not involved in the squad at all today after missing international duty with England.

Full team news will arrive in around eight minutes.

The two sides’ in indifferent form

Both sides failed to win last time out, though West Ham will probably be the happier of the two sides regarding their form, coming off the back of a 5-0 win over Freiburg in the Europa League and a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have lost back-to-back games and were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester City last time out. Today is a big chance for them to bounce back, especially at home, where they have been so strong.

European spots up for grabs

I made a deal yesterday with my colleague Harry Bamford – he will be covering the 3pms and Man United versus Brentford later, so tune in for them – that we wouldnt’ make any Easter puns. So I will stick to that, though we will see if he’ll rise above the agreement.

We have an absolutely action-packed day of Premier League action ahead of us. A 12:30, five 3pms and two – TWO – later on tonight.

The focus is on the Euorpean places to start with, with seventh facing 10th, though just four points separates the two.

Depending on UEFA’s coefficiency, Europa League places could be more-than-up for grabs, so it’s a big one.
