Police in Rotherham have launched an investigation after an 11-year-old girl had her phone robbed out of her hand while walking down the street.

It is reported the girl was walking along Blackburn Road and Meadow Bank Road at around 5pm on Friday, April 5, while on the phone to her friend when an unknown man came along and snatched it from her hand.

The girl’s phone case contained her bank card which was used for several transactions after it was taken, a spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police has said.

Officers have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident. The man is described by police as aged between 18 and 25, of a medium build, of Asian or Eastern European ethnic appearance. He also has a dark moustache.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police added: “If you can help, you can pass information on by calling us on 101, quoting incident number 730 of April 5 2024. You can also report information to us online .

“Alternatively, if you prefer not to give your personal details, you can stay anonymous and pass on what you know by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers. Call their UK Contact Centre on freephone 0800 555 111 or complete a simple and secure anonymous online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org.”
