The first race of the Formula E Rome E-Prix could have ended in tragedy, but fortunately everything ended in just a scare.

Near the halfway point of the first race of the weekend, Sam Bird lost control of his Jaguar. The British driver, who was in fourth place at the time after leading a few laps, stopped in the middle of the track in what was a blind spot for those behind. That’s when the chaos began.

Maximilian Gunther didn’t have any issues in avoiding him, however, Sebastien Buemi collided with him head-on, though he reacted as best he could in order to keep the damage to a minimum.

Then came Antonio Felix Da Costa, who managed to get around Bird, while Jean-Eric Vergne and Stoffel Vandoorne went into the wall of the Cittadino circuit while trying to avoid him.

Norman Nato was also able to avoid the collision, but that’s when the biggest impact of the multi-car collision took place. Edoardo Mortara crashed violently into Bird‘s Jaguar, creating a moment of unease in Italy.

Fortunately, all the drivers are said to be doing okay and no injuries were reported.
