In a significant setback for the Miami Dolphins, star cornerback Jalen Ramsey is slated for knee surgery following an unfortunate injury at the team’s practice on Thursday, and will miss 6-8 weeks. This incident may jeopardize his participation in the first few games of the regular season, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The injury came during Ramsey’s second day at training camp. The practice was abruptly brought to a standstill when Ramsey had to be carted off the field to the locker room. Reports suggest the injury happened towards the end of the practice session.
Ramsey, 28, was seen clutching his left knee after a collision with Tyreek Hill, the wide receiver he was tasked with defending during an 11-on-11 drill. After an immediate assessment by the training staff on the sideline, Ramsey was observed limping onto the cart.
Fellow player and safety, Jevon Holland, expressed his concern, stating, “Everybody’s worried about him.” Holland chose not to speculate about the extent of Ramsey’s injury, citing his lack of medical expertise.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Ramsey remains optimistic. Following the announcement of his upcoming surgery, he took to Twitter to reassure fans of his return, promising to come back “stronger than ever.”
Earlier this year, Ramsey was traded to the Dolphins in a blockbuster deal with the Los Angeles Rams. A six-time Pro Bowler, Ramsey had been instrumental in the Rams‘ Super Bowl LVI victory but was made available for trade after the team suffered an unprecedented number of losses for a reigning Super Bowl champion in the following season.
The Dolphins had high hopes for a strengthened defense with Ramsey‘s addition and continue to remain hopeful that he may be fit to participate in the season opener.
